THE VELVET EASEL GALLERY

The Velvet Easel, located in Portobello, is a contempora­ry art gallery which exhibits an eclectic range of paintings, ceramics, sculpture and unique jewellery. The current exhibition, Imitation of Life, runs until 26 February. A new mixed exhibition will begin on Saturday 4 March. The gallery is open weekly between Thursday and Sunday. OPEN EYE GALLERY

This March the Open Eye Gallery will show an exhibition of new paintings by the Edinburgh-born artist Sarah Carrington. Her atmospheri­c land and seascapes evoke the ever-changing weather and luminous colours of the Scottish and Irish coastlines, noting the similariti­es between the two Celtic lands. In her first exhibition in Edinburgh since 2014, Beth Robertson Fiddes has produced a powerful, evocative and dynamic collection of new work.
