Dunkeld House Hotel

Dunkeld House sits in a 280-acre estate on the River Tay in Perthshire. The sun was shining when we arrived and the grounds were very well kept. We were able to park our car at the entrance and were warmly welcomed at reception and told about the features of the hotel, which was undergoing a renovation – but all of the newly decorated areas look luxurious.

Our room was functional and comfortable and in the part of the hotel that has not yet been renovated. The new rooms and suites look modern and luxurious.

The sporting and activity choices are vast , with the hotel offering fishing on the Tay, quad bike driving, off road driving and clay pigeon shooting, while the Land Rover experience is located nearby. There is also a well equipped gym, pool and spa. In Dunkeld there is a golf course, pottery painting for children and a number of independent shops and cafes.

The setting of the hotel is one of the highlights and the walk directly outside along the River Tay is relaxing and scenically beautiful. There is a kennel on site.

Dinner was a very relaxing and enjoyable occasion with friendly staff who looked after us extremely well. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the bar area after our meal with a much needed whisky sampling. The addition of a pianist added to the overall enjoyment.

After a great night’s sleep we were treated to a breakfast buffet that included cereals, fresh fruits and breads, cooked breakfast, porridge and salmon to name but a few of the items on offer. Sadly the rain appeared after breakfast but it did not stop us from enjoying one more walk along the river then heading off to see the famous local Birnam oak trees.

Once this hotel is finished it will offer the best of what Perthshire has on offer at affordable prices. We would very much like to visit again and would happily come back as either a family or group of friends.

Prices from £64.50 per person, per night
