CHALLENGE TO A DUAL

-

I feel it is important that your readers be made aware of the potentially damaging proposals in place to create a dual carriage way on the Aberdeen to Huntly section of the A96.

A consultant company has been awarded the contract by Transport Scotland to come up with a recommended route option by 2019 as the Scottish Government has taken the decision to dual the entire length of the A9 (between Aberdeen and Inverness) by the year 2030. Should plans go ahead, it will result in the damaging of the integrity of Aberdeenshire’s iconic landmark Bennachie, its wildlife, ecology and geology.

A group named Save Bennachie has been set up with the idea of maintaining the integrity of the area. Whilst in principle they are not against the dualling of the road, they are working hard to ensure the route chosen has the characteristics of the landscape in mind.

Alongside this, the group is also drawing attention to the recent traffic build up in the fast growing centre of Inverurie. Progressions have been made and the campaign has gained support from all North-East MSPs, the Westminster MP and Lord Bruce of Bennachie.

Should your readers be interested they should visit the campaign’s website www.savebennachie.com. Jolyon Robinson, Inverurie
