‘The depth and luxury was brought in through texture rather than colour’

Kathy also had different ideas on how to decorate the sitting room but again she was swayed by the experience and ideas of the Chelsea McLaine team. ‘ My t houghts were for a completely different colour, a carpet and really heavy materials but quite rightly we were reminded that we’d asked for the house to flow and changing the colour scheme and flooring would have stopped that. Instead, the depth and luxury was brought in through texture rather than colour by using pieces like the crushed velvet sofa and the strong patterned wallpaper.’

Patrick continues: ‘I particularly love the sliding doors, I think they’re fantastic and I never would have thought about using them. We have them between the good sitting room and day room and the kitchen and the hall.’

‘We were going to remove the doors completely,’ Kathy recalls. ‘However, that

doesn’t stop noise and smells. When they slide into the wall you don’t see them so it really was the best solution.

‘With Patrick and I being in Dubai there had to be a lot of trust but they kept us really well informed and the parts that were open to interpretation they got just right. It’s understated glitz and glamour, which I love. Little touches like crystals in the wallpaper are subtle, not garish. When we came back at Easter, I opened the door and I said to Patrick they were worth their weight in gold. Everything was here, right down to the wooden spoons and the place mats. It was complete.’

‘We did approach the project with an open mind,’ says Patrick, ‘ and we were good but tentative listeners and it’s worked brilliantly. We’re already working on another property with them.’ Faith well placed indeed.
