Three cheers for Glasgow

-

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the Glasgow issue of the mag! Having lived in Edinburgh for most of my life but having a Granny who still 'bides' in the dear green place, means I'm forever popping over and I couldn't agree more with what Guy Grieve wrote in his article, the banter of Glaswegians is second to none.

There's a level of cheeky and bold humour that you just don't find in Edinburgh, and it's one of the reasons (Granny being number one of course) why I keep heading back. While I do love living in the capital, I am always happy to see Glasgow getting the recognition it deserves, not least for its great pubs and shops but also its beautiful buildings, rich variety of culture and local people who (for the most part) welcome you with a warm smile and quite often, a jokey insult.

In my younger years I enjoyed many a night out with pals in Glasgow as it was always my preferred choice over Edinburgh, people don't take themselves nearly as seriously over there and seemed more up for a laugh as opposed to a slight air of snootiness you sometimes come across in Edinburgh's more up market watering holes.

Whenever I have friends visit from overseas I always encourage them to at least spend the day in Glasgow so that they can experience some of what the city has to offer. Thank you from me and Granny, that issue will be on her coffee table for a wee while yet. Caroline Simpson, Edinburgh
