Let’s talk Trends
Scottish designers share their ideas
1. Margot Paton, design director at Glasgow-based Chelsea Mclaine Interior Design, identifies the trend of mixing different genres of pattern within one design scheme. She said: ‘We’ll use geometrics with florals or cut velvets with digital prints and add lots of opulent trimmings to create impact.’
New season colours are also proving popular with Margot who added: ‘We’re loving the emerging earthy tones with some evocative names such as English Toffee, Muddy Amber and Tuscan Pink from Zoffany’s new paint range.’ Tel: 0141 942 2833, www.chelseamclaine.co.uk
2. In the build up to opening my own B & B in Applecross I researched several Scottish interiors in the hospitality trade. I noticed that there is a strong, simplistic style emerging; which is now symbolising our Scottish signature look. Gone are the overly fussy tartans and patterns. Instead we are looking for clean lines, simplistic patterns with bright or pastel colours teamed with textiles that give a slight nod to the traditions of our heritage. 3. The Bathroom Company specialise in transforming rooms that can follow trends, but also last the test of time; staying fresh and sophisticated for many years to come. Elegant and streamlined products are always on trend, tones of grey with splashes of colour add depth, though we would often recommend a striking wallpaper to add more texture and pattern. We would be delighted to discuss your requirements at either of our showrooms. Tel: 01738 440333 / 0131 337 3355, www.thebathroomcompany.co.uk
