1. JOLOMO From Glasgow to the rough bounds of Ardnamurchan
Morrison was first taken to Sanna Bay Ardnamurchan in 1949 and he has had a ‘love affair’ with the area ever since … adding his wife, three sons and now three grandsons along the way! ‘I just love the fantastic ever changing light … particularly in Springtime when it’s so incredibly sharp!’
He has painted the area on a large scale since the 1960’s and now has a second studio on the edge of Loch Sunart.
However, Morrison is still a ‘Glasgow Boy’ at heart ... so the starting point of the exhibition is the Dear Green Place. The Glasgow Gallery. Oct 13th – 10th Nov 2018. Tel: 01546 870303, www.jolomo.com
2. SOTHEBY’S Croft House, Helensburgh: Home of an Edwardian gentleman, 31 October 2018
Sotheby’s are delighted to be offering for sale works of art and furniture from the collection of Major Ion Harrison at Croft House in Helensburgh.
Major Harrison was an archetypal Edwardian gentleman and the collection demonstrates his wide range of interests. We find a dynamic bronze group of boxers by French sculptor Marcel-André Bouraine which Major Harrison acquired from The Goldsmith and Silversmith Co. in 1926 on one of his many buying visits to London. Two stuffed stag’s heads of ten points bear testament to shooting expeditions in the majestic landscape of the Glenfinlas estate and smoking accoutrement, such as a stylish silver-mounted and lacquer cigarette box by Henry Clifford Davis for Alfred Dunhill (pictured), offer added interest.
