Trump Turnberry

On driving up to Trump Turnberry the excitement starts as you see the immaculate green lawns (even after the drought), tasteful flowers and fountains. Kilted gentlemen are in abundance, parking the car and taking bags in, even asking if we needed anything for our dog.

Once inside we were stunned by the decor. The bedroom was dream-like, with every facility cleverly and tastefully concealed, no bling in sight. We enjoyed delicious macaroons with a cup of tea and set off to explore the spa, pool and gym. When admitting to the very helpful staff that I hadn’t taken a costume, they quickly came up trumps.

Walking back to the hotel , the long corridor is a golf lover’s dream of photographic memories going back to 1906, when Turnberry was built.

After pre-dinner drinks and chatting with American golfers as a piper played at the front door, we were shown the sumptuous menu, all the time enjoying a beautiful red sunset over Arran and Alisa Craig.

We enjoyed a dinner of oysters, sweetbreads, wood pigeon and toffee apple cheesecake.

After a brilliant night’s sleep and making use of the luxurious bathroom, we went down to the best breakfast I have ever eaten in my life. Everything in our amazing cold spread was spot on, with fresh fruit, yoghurt and muesli followed by eggs Benedict, then every kind of bread and toast imaginable, with staff refilling the coffee cups without ever needing to be asked.

After checking out and being pampered by the brilliant staff, we enjoyed a walk in the woods, which happily had handrails and ramps where needed. If you are looking for a hotel well above the rest and to make some magic memories, Trump Turnberry is the place for you.
