BANN Joinery
BANN are one of Edinburgh’s leading construction companies. They specialise in creating exceptional spaces and buildings, whether that be a sympathetically restored period property or a cutting-edge new build. Working closely with their clients throughout the entire process, from ideas to execution, BANN ensure that the space they create excels in both style and functionality. They’ve established strong relationships with the country’s top architectural firms and designers, enabling them to create projects of great ambition and quality.
James McAuley, Managing Director at BANN, explains, ‘We’re not like the average construction company. We oversee all aspects of our builds, from providing accredited trades to taking care of building warrants. We go above and beyond to ensure our clients’ needs are fulfilled, however ambitious they may be.’
BANN initiate every project by getting to know their clients. Their lifestyles, needs and ideas are at the fore of the design. Whether it’s creating glass floors, installing automatic pet doors in stone walls or devising hidden doors that lead to bespoke storage solutions, the team go above and beyond to fulfil and exceed clients’ expectations.
The company recently conducted major structural works to achieve the full renovation of a Grade A listed apartment in Edinburgh’s Annandale Street. The client wanted to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. Open-plan layouts have become increasingly popular—not only because they are multi-functional, but because they make once-small areas appear larger and more inviting. The initial designs were formed by Staran Architects.
The project was a serious undertaking for this modest ground floor flat. The team removed two loadbearing walls and fitted a steel framework to support the four floors above. Bringing individual spaces together enabled a full re-wire of the apartment and installation of top-of-the-range underfloor heating.
All sash-and-case windows were replaced; one set was removed to make way for French doors. New oak doors, architraves and skirting boards were fitted along with associated ironmongery. The chimney was re-lined and a new woodburning stove installed – adding warmth and a homely finishing touch to the space.
The three spaces were united by the addition of traditional herringbone parquet flooring and a soft grey palette, a sophisticated finish successfully blending tradition with contemporary living. The new linked living spaces now benefit from lovely views of the apartment’s newly-created decking and garden, providing a real synergy between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
James adds, ‘We are known for our professionalism, experience, customer service and creativity. This is something that we continue to strengthen and build upon. We maintain strong relationships with our existing clients, and are excited at the prospect of working with new clients.’
