REVIEWED BY CHRISTINE HARPER AND IAIN CONNELLY FROM TORRYBURN IN FIFE
Situated right on Loch Linnhe, we had heard glowing reports about The Pierhouse Hotel, and were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our comfortable and tastefully decorated sea view room.
After freshening up we came down to the cosy and wellstocked Ferry Bar for pre-dinner drinks. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, the staff helpful and knowledgeable.
The dining room has stunning views over the water which we enjoyed from our window table. This is fine dining at its best, no pretentiousness, just exceptional, locally sourced produce imaginatively yet unfussily prepared by chef Michael Leathley and his team. We’ve eaten in some very good restaurants and this is up there with the best.
We slept soundly and enjoyed a delicious breakfast, perfect for a day’s walking (the hotel can also provide packed lunches). The Pierhouse is ideally located for walkers of all abilities and has all the amenities at hand for drying out and washing clothes.
After breakfast we took the short ferry trip to the island of Lismore (£4 return) to explore and enjoy the peace and quiet before returning to the mainland and our journey home.
This is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Manager Fiona McLean and her staff looked after us well, nothing was a problem. We would heartily recommend it and will definitely return, hopefully for longer next time.
REVIEWED BY SANDY AND CHRISTINE TAYLOR FROM SCONE IN PERTHSHIRE
Travelling from Perth on a sunny morning in wintry weather, the scenery impressed as we moved westwards. We were well received and soon installed in a spacious first floor room with a balcony overlooking Loch Lomond only a few yards away.
The public areas are warm and comfortable, while their timber linings and furnishings give a rustic feel. By contrast the bedrooms are fully modernised and ours was well equipped with seating area, large modern bathroom and personal sauna.
After a complimentary glass of bubbles we sought out the pool and spa, then explored the Lodge and its bar, relaxing by an open fire until changing for dinner. In the restaurant our window table overlooked the loch, while the menu was comprehensive and the food beautifully presented and delicious. Although busy the service was prompt and staff attentive.
The next morning the weather was still terrible so we walked the grounds before taking a short but atmospheric stroll along Loch Lomond to the historic village of Luss.
A mix of easy and challenging walks start from Luss and within the immediate area there is extensive hill walking available. Recreational sailing and boat trips are close to hand and access to Glasgow and the coast is easy.
We found the hotel welcoming and comfortable, while the staff were friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lodge on Loch Lomond.
