SECOND PLACE FOR SCOTS ARTIST
Irvine-based artist Maree Hughes took second place in the Derwent Art Prize, scooping up £2,000. The Glasgow School of Art graduate was one of 1,884 artists from 72 countries who entered more than 4,750 pieces in the competition. Judges included artist Charles Avery and design critic and author Alice Rawsthorn. Hughes’ award-winning piece was entitled 15. www. derwent-artprize.com
