Prestonfield House

- Reviewed by Grant and Lois Anderson from Edinburgh

With Covid-19 affecting all our lives this year, we like many others, had to cancel, delay and rearrange a few planned breaks. Our two-night stay at Prestonfield House therefore provided us with the perfect opportunity to enjoy a luxury break close to home. We felt safe and cared for in a way that seemed effortless for the very accommodating staff.

Upon arrival we were delighted to be shown to the opulent Owner’s Suite, our home for the duration of our stay. The Owner’s Suite is simply magnificent. It has a private staircase that leads to the spacious accommodation including the private lobby, separate lounge, bedroom and bathroom. The lounge is spacious and intriguing with its historical features and elaborate furnishings whilst the bedroom is simply stunning with its sumptuously dressed four poster bed. The bathroom with its deep chariot-style bath and mood lighting will also serve those who prefer a powerful shower in the morning. We felt like we were on the film set of decadent days gone by.

We immediately felt pampered with the complementary chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us. We enjoyed a glass (or two) before heading down to dinner in the very well-known and respected Rhubarb restaurant. On the first night we enjoyed the three-course set menu and on our second night we chose from the à-la-carte menu. Both menus offered innovative and exciting options which made it very hard to choose. This too can be said of the excellent wine list.

Attention to detail also came from the lovely hotel staff who could not have been more helpful and cheery despite having to endure facemasks in their daily work.
