Lathallan School

-

Lathallan, nestled in between Montrose and Aberdeen on the edge of the stunning North Sea coastline, provides an inspiring learning location for girls and boys aged six weeks to 18 years at its Nursery, Junior and Senior School. Situated in the heart of 60 acres of luscious grounds, with lessons in the 19th-century Brotherton Castle, Lathallan offers an exceptional education for individuals who are seeking small class sizes within a spacious environment.

Outdoor learning is at the heart of Lathallan’s ethos with lessons regularly taking place on the grounds, in the treehouse classroom, in the estates burn and at the on-site school farm.

The farm plays a pivotal role in Lathallan’s sustainability drive. Pupils learn valuable farm-to-fork lessons through rearing pigs, harvesting potatoes and growing a wide range of fruit and vegetables that are used for freshly-cooked school meals.

While Lathallan is steeped in tradition and allows their pupil roll of 200 (across the Junior and Senior School) to learn without limits it has embraced modern technology to meet the ever-changing needs of the digital era.

During the lockdown period over 80% of lessons were delivered using live video and with all pupils from Junior 3 to Senior 6 now equipped with Chromebooks the school has invested heavily to expand its wifi reach.

Digital will be integrated into the heart of outdoor learning with pupils now able to surf the web across the 60-acre estate and to the school’s very own pebbled beach.

Scientific pupils also benefit from a modern, purpose built Science Centre, with sport also high on the agenda as over 20 percent of pupils compete regionally or nationally at their chosen field.

Lathallan is a non-selective school with individuals given the right level of support and challenge within average class sizes of 12, but it continues to achieve academically with the Class of 2020 producing some outstanding results.

In S6 there was a 100% pass rate at Higher and Advanced Higher level, with 94% of Advanced Highers at A or B level. A third of all pupils achieved seven or more As at Nat 5 level.
