BLACKDOWN SAC OPEN Blue An­chor slipway to Mine­head town beach, Som­er­set, 72 an­glers

Roland Broom­field caught two codling to win this catch and re­lease event with 59 points. The sec­ond and third placed an­glers, Brad Lock and Chris Equeall, both had one codling.

Re­sult: 1 Roland Broom­field, Lyming­ton, 2 fish, 59pts (7pts); 2 Brad Lock, Taun­ton, 1 fish, 51 (6); 3 Chris Equeall, Cardiff, 1, 48 (5).

CH­E­SIL LEAGUE & OPEN Ma­sonic, Port­land, Dorset, 40 an­glers

Smooth­hounds weigh­ing into dou­ble fig­ures are very rare at Port­land, but a 113cm fish, which con­verted to 12lb, helped Rob Mar­shall to a win­ning 24-8-0 from his peg in zone A.

Sec­ond and third were filled by an­glers in the same zone, with Ju­lian Sham­brook record­ing 10 fish for 18-2-0 and Mike Brown 17-14-0, con­sist­ing of 21 pol­lack.

Zone B win­ner was Ben Brad­stock with 5-9-0, with the big­gest fish in this sec­tion be­ing Jeff Fisk’s 2lb 2oz dog­fish.

Re­sult: 1 Rob Mar­shall, Taun­ton, 24-8-0, in­clud­ing heav­i­est fish, 12lb smooth­hound (4pts); 2 Ju­lian Sham­brook, Torquay, 18-2-0 (3); 3 Mike Brown, Southamp­ton, 17-14-0 (2). Zone– Ben Brad­stock, Honi­ton, 5-9-0 (1).

HORNSEA SAC MARK LOUDEN OPEN Sewerby Steps to Paull Light­house, East Yorks, 100 an­glers

Win­ning an­gler in this big­gest fish match was Rob Neale, from Hull, with a 3.775kg cod. Sec­ond went to Steve Wil­liams, of Jar­row, with a fish of 1.325kg.

Re­sult: 1 Rob Neale, Hull, 3.775kg cod (10pts); 2 Steve Wil­liams, Jar­row, 1.325kg cod (9); 3 Bill Hope, Hull, 1.1kg cod (8).

SOUTH­ERN LEAGUE AND OPEN Sand­banks, Dorset, 87 an­glers

Wayne Per­rett, of Southamp­ton, won this match with 1-11-0 from peg D86, his catch in­clud­ing the heav­i­est fish, a 1lb 6oz floun­der.

Ben Arnold, of Wor­thing, was close be­hind with 1-8-0 from peg B44. Third place went to Nicky Frewin, of Axbridge, at peg D78 with 1-1-0. Zone win­ners were Dar­ren Stevens at A10 with 0-14-0 and Lee Ga­trell at C64 with 0-7-0.

Re­sult: 1 Wayne Per­ret, Southamp­ton, 1-11-0, in­clud­ing heav­i­est fish, 1-6-0 floun­der (8pts); 2 Ben Arnold, Wor­thing, 1-8-0 (7); 3 Nicky Frewin, Axbridge, 1-1-0 (6). Zones – Dar­ren Stevens, Bris­tol, 0-14-0 & Lee Ga­trell, Portsmouth, 0-7-0 (both 3).

THE 10TH RNLI CHAR­ITY OPEN, Am­roth, Pem­brokeshire, 84 an­glers

Tenby an­gler Pe­ter Tay­lor was the only com­peti­tor to catch two size­able flat­fish, and his 0.670kg to­tal was enough to win the £200 first prize for the best bag of floun­ders caught.

The Penn Plus match, with points for the top 10, at­tracted an in­creased at­ten­dance com­pared to 2016. Fished to the new Welsh FSA min­i­mum size for floun­ders of 30cm, it re­sulted in 14 el­i­gi­ble fish, al­though there were far more floun­ders mea­sur­ing more than the old 25cm size.

Run­ner-up was Welsh FSA East Re­gion stal­wart Steve Chad­wick, of Cardiff, who caught one fish for 0.495kg, and also scooped the pool for the heav­i­est fish.

The event raised £500 for the An­gle and Tenby lifeboats.

THE 29TH IRISH WIN­TER SHORE AN­GLING FES­TI­VAL Wex­ford & Wick­low beaches, Ireland, 309 an­glers

With the planned venues of East Wex­ford be­ing un­fish­able for two days, the 103 an­glers fish­ing each of the three matches found the venues moved.

Win­ter con­di­tions saw the to­tal num­ber of fish caught, even with a re­duced size limit, down to 2,206, com­pared to the 2016 to­tal in ex­cess of 5,000.

Win­ner Paul Whe­lan won zone C on Day 1 in Wick­low, adding sec­ond place fin­ishes in zone C on Day 2 at Curracloe and zone D on Day 3 at Clones Strand and Dodd’s Rocks, to fin­ish with 76 points.

Fin­ish­ing only a point be­hind was Ged Stevens, who was third in zone 3 on Day 1, first in zone A on Day 2 and sec­ond in zone C on Day 3.

Third place went to the 2016 Penn Sea League cham­pion, Saul Page with 72 points, which in­cluded third in zone D on Day 2 and first in zone D on Day 3.

Long­est fish on Day 1 was Derek Ken­rick’s 41cm codling, while on Day 2 it was Gordy Hard­man’s 31cm floun­der, and on Day 3 Joe Car­ley’s 41cm whiting.

Penn Sea League rule 2 ap­plies (multi-day event, max­i­mum of 20pts to win­ner, zone points based on daily en­try) for this event.

Next year’s event will be held from Jan­uary 25-27.

THE 41ST FORDS SPORTS & SO­CIAL SAC OPEN BEACH CHAM­PI­ONSHIP We­ston Shore, Southamp­ton, 86 an­glers

A floun­der of 2lb 2oz se­cured top spot for Mike Tay­lor, who was in red zone. Sec­ond went to Dave Ste­wart in white zone with 1-9-0. Only 14 an­glers weighed in fish.

Re­sult: 1 Mike Tay­lor, Fairoak, 4-4-0 (8pts); 2 Dave Ste­wart, Gosport, 3-2-0 (7); 3 Tony Sher­wood, Park Gate, 1-4-0.

THE FOUN­TAIN OPEN Princes Pa­rade & Marine Pa­rade, Hythe, Kent, 87 an­glers

Hast­ings an­gler Rex Palmer caught 12 fish for 1.860kg to run out win­ner of this match. Sec­ond and third places came from the same zone.

Re­sult: 1 Rex Palmer, Hast­ings, 1.860kg (8pt); 2 Luke Hut­ton, Dover, 1.170kg (7); 3 Dar­ren Bond, Lanc­ing, 1.140kg (6). Zones – Sam Col­lier, Ben Brad­stock, Honi­ton & Phil Tan­ner, Folke­stone (all 3). Heav­i­est fish – Hugh Rath­bone, Dorset, 0.800kg plaice (3).

WELSH FSA SHORE LEAGUE Aberthaw & Bover­ton, Vale of Glamorgan. 82 an­glers

Four spot­ted rays, three dog­fish and a pout­ing weigh­ing a to­tal of 7.80kg se­cured vic­tory for Daniel Crump, of Barry, who was fish­ing at Stout Point.

Run­ner-up John Grif­fiths, of Tonyre­fail, chose the same venue and caught two codling and three rock­ling for 3.71kg.

Roy Tap­per, of Cardiff, took third place with nine rock­ling, a con­ger and a pol­lack for 3.36kg while fish­ing at Bover­ton.

Re­sult: 1 Daniel Crump, Barry, 7.80kg (8pts); 2 John Grif­fiths, Tonyre­fail, 3.71kg (7); 3 Roy Tap­per, Cardiff, 3.36kg (6).

WEST COAST TACKLE LEAGUE RND 2 & OPEN Ot­ter­spool, Mersey­side, 50 an­glers

Eleven fish caught, for 382cm, se­cured the win here for Garry Hut­son, of Cleethor­pes.

The event’s big­gest fish was a 53cm codling for Si­mon Daw­ber, of Wi­gan.

Re­sult: 1 Garry Hut­son, Cleethor­pes, 11 fish, 382cm (5pts); 2 Bill Lind­field, Greasby, 14, 345cm (4); 3 Stu­art De­whurst, Pre­ston, 14, 333cm (3). Zone – Gor­don Thornes, Con­nah’s Qay, 325cm (2). Long­est fish – Si­mon Daw­ber, Wi­gan, 53cm codling (2).
