Sea Angler (UK)

Q: Is there anything you that can put on hooks to stop them rusting? I used seven rigs in a match and only had one cast with some of them. It seems a waste to bin them all. Does anyone use stainless hooks?

ANSWERS… Paul Fenech:

We spend hundreds of pounds on rods and reels, so I find it difficult to understand about saving on hooks. A pack of 30 can cost less than a fiver. I only use carbon hooks, stainless versions are a no-no, in my book.

George Smith:

I get though hundreds of hooks, some have been in the sea for only one cast. I don’t use stainless hooks, but I think a few boat anglers do.

Dave Brown:

It helps if you give your rigs a quick rinse in fresh water after your session and keep them dry in a small plastic bag; that will help prolong the life a bit. When match fishing, most stainless steel hooks will be too thick and heavy for your needs.
