Q:Is it possible to catch plaice on LRF? MARK AITKEN, BY EMAIL

-

AK & DS say: Some of our most memorable catches on lures have been plaice. In our neck of the woods, on the South Coast, plaice are the first real target of the new year for many anglers.

LRF and lure anglers need not miss out on the action, but, as ever, success will come down to fishing the right spot.

We target plaice from the boat because our traditional plaice grounds are offshore, but we see more and more getting caught by shore anglers using LRF.

If you can locate a plaice within casting range, there is a strong chance that you will catch it. These fish are incredibly aggressive and will chase down their prey. Although we tend to use worm replicas, this is probably more to do with what we think we know about plaice from our bait fishing. I have no doubt that these fish are actively hunting shrimps and prawns, and quite possibly smaller fish too.
