BIG BASS FOR ALDERNEY ANGLER
A Channel Islander has caught a superb 10lb 8oz bass on a shallow-diving hard plastic lure.
Andy Black, who lives on Alderney, caught the big fish, a personal best, on March 5 during rough conditions in a falling tide. His previous best was 7lb.
Andy, who is a stonemason, fished with a 9ft 6in Daiwa Tournament rod matched with a Daiwa Caldia 4000A reel loaded with 34.7lb eight-strand braid, with a 10ft long, 14lb fluorocarbon leader and size 8 Delalande Fastlock snap to hold the lure.
It was his fourth bass of 2017 and all were returned safely.
