CLAMPDOWN AT BEACHY HEAD

-

Regulations have been issued for the Beachy Head West MCZ, to prevent fishing with towed gear, nets and lining. It will also prevent people removing, killing or destroying piddocks, native oysters, blue mussels and seahorses.

Collection in Beachy Head West MCZ, which covers Brighton Marina to Newhaven, will be limited, in a single day, to two lobsters, five edible crabs, 20 crabs of any species, 1kg of mollusc shellfish, except paddock, blue mussels and native oysters, 1kg of marine worms and 2kg of intertidal seaweed.

It is prohibited to remove these for commercial purposes. It states a person must not intentionally harm or remove any marine organism by intertidal gathering in the educational conservation area; this does not apply to angling.
