CLAIM FOR A NEW RECORD SPURDOG

An angler from Devon is claiming a new British shore record for a spurdog.

Gary Hillon, of Plymouth Castaways SAC, caught a 17lb 7oz 8dr spurdog on March 3 while fishing at an undisclosed venue in Devon. The fish took a squid and sandeel cocktail bait on a Pennell rig with Koike Wide Mouth size 4/0 hooks.

The current British shore-caught record for a spurdog is 16lb 12oz 8dr, caught in 1964 at Chesil Beach in Dorset.
