5 WAYS TO ACHIEVE CATCH SUCCESS

-

When the wind is blowing into my face, I will lengthen my drop a bit and then do my best to slow my cast down a notch and then keep telling myself not to blast the living daylights out of every single cast.

Think about timing. Try to keep things that bit more controlled, although I understand that it makes logical sense to try and put your lure over the horizon when the wind is blowing.

You need to keep a close eye on the conditions and make doubly sure that you are standing in the safest place possible.

Be aware of the tide state and whether it’s flooding or ebbing, and then on some coastlines you need to really understand the swell and how the sea can surge much more when you have a big swell running. If you are not used to swell and how it behaves, then I would urge you to read all you can about it and massively err on the side of caution.

Swell is not the same as waves. You can have a massive swell out on the rocks without actually having rough conditions. For instance, on the south coast of Cornwall, where I fish a lot, you can predict the wave patterns when it’s roughed up, and then work within them to cover the ground. Move up to the north coast, though, and it’s a completely different animal if there is a decent swell running.
