Can you tell me when would I use the Jika rig?
AK & DS say: Jika is like a dropshot rig with no drop between the hook and lead weight. Generally, you would use Jika when conditions forced you to try a heavier weight and you wanted the lure presented on the bottom; perhaps most often categorised as an HRF (Hard Rock Fishing) technique – namely for wrasse.
There are two clear benefits. Firstly, the lure is articulated, so, when using a heavier weight, it maintains a lot of natural movement. It’s easier for a fish to engulf the lure before feeling resistance from the lead weight. Secondly, the lure fishes a few centimetres above the weight, allowing contact with the bottom to be maintained, and you can feel the rig through seabed debris, reacting to potential snags much quicker than, say, a Texas or weedless jig head. This positive effect is magnified further by using a tungsten weight.
