Sea Angler (UK)

I use flavoured worms but want to focus on other LRF methods. Can you recommend some soft plastics that work for a range of mini-species?

AK & DS say: Great plan. Give it time and you’ll find it very rewarding. Truth is, despite us all being too reliant on the flavoured baits from time to time, it’s possible to catch all the normal suspects on unflavoured lures.

Like a lot of angling, success comes from confidence, which is far more important than the lures used. However, the scale and pace of how you present them is important.

Sounds like you already know how to catch on Isome or Gulp, so simply swap the lure on your preferred rig. Find some lures that mimic what you’re used to, but without the flavour. If you want to stick with a worm replica, you could try Savage Gear’s Micro Ragworm lures.

Our micro lure of choice, right now, is the HTO Knight Worm. It’s a shrimptype offering; fish it on a split shot rig with a size 14 hook and cut it down even smaller if you want to catch gobies.

Knight Worms are cheap, supple and come in a range of colours, so see what colour works on any given day.

Experiment and enjoy catching on new lures and rigs. Don’t get stuck in a rut because variety is the spice of life.
