What is meant by using baited lures to catch a variety of different species?

DL says: Everything depends on the type of lure you are using, but, in most cases, I am sure you are referring to using baited feathers or a string of their many modern alternatives.

Baiting these is simple and straightforward, using long thin slivers of fish or squid, as shown (right). Basic, yes, but the baited lure is very effective for boat fishing and will catch an incredible variety of species.
