Founded by a group of anglers concerned about the fish’s future because of increasing levels of commercial fishing, the Bass Anglers Sportfishing Society has since developed into a thriving angling club and an organisation ‘fighting for bass and bass anglers since 1973’.

The guys who formed BASS had great foresight, and the society they created has stood the test of time. Most of the protection now afforded to bass is down to the huge amount of effort put in by our members voluntarily over the years.

However, 45 years on, the bass stock situation has got worse, even become critical, and the need for an organisation like BASS has never been greater.

With the increasing popularity of bass angling, a specialist organisation like BASS, with its wealth of knowledge and expertise amassed over nearly half a century, provides a valuable resource for anglers.

Like all good organisations that want to stay ahead of the curve, BASS is constantly looking at how it can improve the benefits of membership, and how it can best promote the interests of all bass anglers, and ensure that our children and grandchildren can enjoy catching this wonderful fish, with a reasonable chance of actually landing a big one.

CAMPAIGNING

What is BASS? Well, it’s both a fishing club and a campaigning organisation. As a fishing club, BASS is the natural home for bass anglers across the UK and beyond and:

has members who fish for bass, but also for a wide variety of other fish;

is for anglers who take fish for the table and those who practise catch & release;

respects all methods of angling;

is a friendly home for all those anglers who want to fish sustainably;

helps members make new friends, meet up and fish together through fish-ins in various parts of the country;

has an annual get-together where all members can socialise and hear about the latest Society news and angling developments;

members help each other to improve their angling skills;

members entertain and educate each other through the website, quarterly magazine, online members forum, newsletter and blog;

provides high-quality resources for learning about bass and bass angling including access to all previous issues of the BASS magazine;

supports scientific research into bass and helps members get involved;

negotiates discounts for members with leading tackle suppliers;

As a campaigning organisation, through its ‘Save Our Sea Bass’ arm, BASS campaigns for an abundant, healthy bass stock with more and bigger bass, for priority for recreational angling, and for a sustainable bass fishery.

So why not join BASS? It’s for beginners and experts alike, and you’ll be part of a group of bass anglers with a long and established history.
