GARMIN QUATIX 5 MULTIFUNCTIONAL WATCH RRP: £499.99

Garmin’s latest range in technology, the new Quatix 5, is a marine version of its Fenix 5 Sport Adventurer watch.

The Quatix 5 can integrate with all the compatible Garmin devices, such as advanced autopilot control and remote waypoint marking features, allowing you to maintain control of your vessel – even if you are not the one at the helm.

You can even access a GHC™ 20 autopilot control unit to change heading, turn, and steer the boat. You’ll also have remote waypoint marking, which allows you to add a waypoint from Quatix 5 and have it sync automatically with your connected chart plotter.

There’s also GPS, which will give you a track-back feature, as well as a built-in barometer, an altitude meter and a threeaxis compass with automatic calibration.

When pairing your device with a smartphone, you can download up to seven days of tide data for your current location. You can update your location and download new data by simply selecting the tide screen.

Other great advantages for boat or kayak anglers seeking pictures and video of a day’s angling is a fantastic feature to connect to any Garmin VIRB 30 cameras – Garmin’s own version to the popular GoPro Hero – which our photographer says is every bit as good.

Mounting these cameras to the kayak or in various positions on a boat will, when the reels scream, enable you to be ready with a one-touch start of your watch’s widget to record or take photos.

In addition to all of these marine-specific functions, the Quatix 5 also has built-in activity profiles for land and water sports, such as biking, running, hiking, rowing and swimming. It also has an impressive battery life performance, with up to two weeks in smartwatch mode and up to 75 hours in UltraTrac GPS mode.

Quatix comes in two versions, the non-sapphire crystal face with a blue silicone band and the sapphire crystal face with a stainless steel and blue band. Both allow you to change the band quickly and easily with no tools, which is great if you’re switching from a day’s angling to a night on the town.
