MORECAMBE BAY TWO-DAY OPEN Morecambe, Lancs, 100 anglers

It was tight at the top with two anglers finishing with the perfect brace of zone wins over the two-day event, with first place decided on fish length.

Winner was Kenny McCoy, of Sunderland, with 447cm, with runner-up spot going to David G Hutchinson, of Lancaster, with 293cm. McCoy won zone C on day 1 with 255cm and zone B on day 2 with 192cm, while Hutchinson topped zone B on the first day with 155cm and zone B on the second with 138cm

In third with four points was Neil Cutler, of Gateshead. The match had 50 anglers fishing on each day. The biggest fish flat was a 42cm plaice for Simon Dawber and the best round fish was an 85cm thornback ray caught by Kenny McCoy.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE RND 2 & OPEN

Highcliffe, Dorset, 77 anglers Winner was Matthew Ashbridge, a new member of the league, with an 11lb 14oz undulate ray as part of his 13-15-0 winning bag from peg 29 in zone B.

Second was Chris Clark at zone D peg 86 with 7-11-8, while third went to Paul Phillips with 5-8-0 from D80. Fish caught were mostly whiting, pouting and rockling, with a one or two flounders, rays and bass. ■ Result: 1 Matthew Ashbridge (above), Bournemout­h, 13-15-0, including heaviest fish, 11-14-0 undulate ray (7pts); 2 Chris Clark, Sway, 7-11-8 (6); 3 Paul Phillips, Southampto­n, 5-8-8 (5). Zones – Tom Bagnall, Bournemout­h, 3-5-0 & Dillon Thompson, Bournemout­h, 2-10-8 (both 2).

SKUA SAC TWO-DAY OPEN Talacre, Flintshire, 96 anglers

Cardiff matchman Franco Attanasio won his zone on both days to finish with the two zones points and seal victory.

On day 1 he won zone C from peg 26 with 817cm and on day 2 topped zone B at peg 14 with 688cm.

The next three anglers all finished with a zone win and zone second for three points, so positions had to be decided on length of fish.

Wayne McGilloway, of Greenfield, edged into second with 1,519cm, with Alan Price, of Kinmel Bay, with 1,496cm, leaving Gareth Griffiths in fourth with 1,359cm.

THE 11TH RNLI ANNUAL OPEN Amroth, Pembs, 73 anglers

Fifteen anglers weighed in 11 flounders and two rockling in this charity match in aid of the Tenby and Angle lifeboats.

Winner with two flounders for 0.675kg was Gareth Protheroe, of Tenby, while second place went to Andrew Wilson, of Pontardula­is, with a lone flounder for 0.590kg.

■ Result: 1 Gareth Protheroe, Tenby, 0.675kg (7pts); 2 Andrew Wilson, Pontardula­is, 05.90kg (6); 3 Hugh Sweeney, Pembroke, 0.530kg (5).

SOUTHERN LEAGUE RND 3 & OPEN

Highcliffe, Dorset, 74 anglers Competitor­s braved snowy driving conditions to take part, with Ben Arnold, of Worthing, securing top spot with 3-3-0 from peg 43 in zone C.

Fished in four zones, the match produced rockling, whiting, pouting and an eel.

Second was Nick Hayter with 2-12-4 from peg 4 in zone A and third was Riley Price, of Bournemout­h, with 2-2-12 at peg 5 in zone A. Heaviest roundfish was a 13oz eel caught by Dave Lane, of Weymouth.
