WEYMOUTH ANGLING CENTRE & LEEDA ICON FLATFISH OPEN Chesil Beach, Dorset, 161 anglers

In near-perfect conditions, except for slight colour in the water, the fish showed mainly in the West Bexington and Dragon’s Teeth section at Abbotsbury.

With 25 anglers taking fish to the scales in this Penn Plus event, it was good to see most of the catch kept alive and returned.

Finishing on top was Ant Davies (above right), of Southampto­n, with two plaice and a flounder for 102cm, which earned him the £500 top prize.Runner-up was Dave Lane, of Weymouth, with two plaice and a dab for 97cm. Dave also won the pairs with Danny Woodcock, with a combined total of 130cm, to share £150.

A brace of plaice for 76cm secured third for Mike Taylor, of Southampto­n, while the longest fish was a 49cm plaice for Shane Henderson, of Portland, who won £250 for his efforts; he finished sixth overall.

ASSO FIVE MAN LEAGUE ROUND 4 OPEN Hastings & St Leonards beaches, East Sussex, 40 anglers

Colin Crosby, of Hastings, won the fourth and final round with 2-13-0 in zone C, but missed out by one point in securing overall top spot in the league.

Best individual over the four rounds was Darren Bond with 44 points, followed by Colin on 43 and Nathan Elliott on 40.

Second on the day was Ben Arnold, who won zone B with 2-12-0, with third going to Sam Sampson, who won zone A with 2-8-0. Overall top team in this National Sea League qualifier was Hastings AC with 167 points, followed by Christchur­ch Angling on 156 and Zziplex on 133.

CHESIL LEAGUE & OPEN Bexington, Dorset, 30 anglers

Normally, there would be dogfish, early smoothound­s, rays and plenty of flatfish caught, but the unseasonal­ly cold weather meant that the fishing was poor.

The favoured back end towards Abbotsbury (the flagpole) fished the worst, with those on pegs 1-7 all blanking and only five weighing in from zone A. Zone B produced a few plaice.

Winner Ian Dancey, of Waterloovi­lle, caught two plaice and a whiting for 2-15-8, including the event’s heaviest fish, a

1lb 12oz 8dr plaice. Runner-up Wayne Pidgley caught two for 2-1-0.

SENHOUSE STREET SAC EASTER SATURDAY OPEN Perch Light to Grasslot pier, Cumbria, 138 anglers

The incentive of a £1,000 first prize for the heaviest flatfish and £500 for the heaviest bag weight attracted plenty of competitor­s to this event.

Winner of the £1,000 was Stuart Miller, of Stevenston, who caught a 1lb 13oz 8dr plaice from Black Bank.

The best bag weights all came from Grasslot beach.

Top weight, worth £500, went to Tom Whitehead, of Maryport, with 5-7-0, consisting of three dogfish, two dabs and a flounder. Second was Antony Cole, of Millom, with three dogfish for 5-3-0, and third was 2017 Penn Sea League champion Ged Stevens, of Barrow, with two dogfish and a codling for 4-10-0.

■ Result: 1 Tom Whitehead, Maryport, 5-7-0 (13pts); 2 Antony Cole, Millom, 5-3-0 (12); 3 Ged Stevens, Barrow, 4-10-0 (11). Heaviest fish – Stuart Miller, Stevenston, 1-13-8 plaice (3).

SOUTHERN LEAGUE ROUND 4 & OPEN

Browndown/Stokes, Hants, 85 anglers Two thornback rays for 12-8-0 earned top place for Steve Greenen, of Portsmouth, who was in zone D.

Runner-up was Russell Preston, of Bristol, who topped zone C with 11-13-8. The top two also both caught rays of 7lb 7oz to share the heaviest fish prize.

Third place went to in-form Ben Arnold, of Worthing, with 5-9-0 from zone C, which saw him go top of the Penn Sea League Premier Division. John Delaney won zone A with 4-4-8 and Steven Howell topped zone B with 1-15-0.

THE 46TH CHESIL CHAMPIONSH­IPS Burton Bradstock to Abbotsbury, Dorset, 75 anglers

A small-eyed ray of 52cm, weighing 2.599kg, was enough for Gary Loveless (pictured below), of Three Counties SAA, to win the £250 first prize.

Runner-up was Sea Angler contributo­r James Madsen with 1.576kg, including a 45cm, 0.876kg plaice caught on a lug bait on a two-hook clipped rig. Dave Lane, of Weymouth, finished third with 1.361kg.

■ Result: 1 Gary Loveless, Yetminster, 2.599kg (7pts); 2 James Madsen, Bedminster, 0.876kg (6); 3 Dave Lane, Weymouth, 1.361kg (5).

WESTON OUTCASTS SAC COD OPEN

Portishead to Clevedon, Somerset, 96 anglers

Winner of the £500 first prize was Adrian Ford, of Weston-super-Mare, who caught three codling for 9-2-0.

Second place, worth £300, went to Steve King, of Bristol, with a 3lb 10oz 8dr codling, the event’s heaviest fish. In third was Paul Channing, also from Bristol, with a codling for 3lb 5oz 8dr, which earned him £200.
