EAST ANGLIAN TEAMS OF FIVE OPEN Weybourne, Norfolk, 73 anglers

Zone 4 produced the top two, with Tarrick ‘Taz’ Brighton taking 24 fish for 4-9-8 at peg 55, and Barry Diaper catching 26 for 4-7-8 at peg 51.

Third was Matt Frost with 27 fish for 4-2-0 at peg 73 in zone 5.

Team Breakaway and Stuart Guns & Tackle shared were the top teams on the day.

■ Result: 1 Tarrick Brighton, Aldeburgh, 24 fish, 4-9-8 (7pts); 2 Barry Diaper, Stowmarket, 26, 4-7-8 (6); 3 Matt Frost, Woodbridge, 27, 4-2-0 (5).

EAST COAST WARRIOR OPEN Sewerby Steps to Paull Lighthouse, East Yorks, 116 anglers

Winner Karl Wieckpe, of Grimsby, fished at Old Hall, where he caught a 2.225kg cod.

Only 400 yards away was Mark Andrews, of Hull, who finished second. Improving on his fourth place last year, Mark won the event about 10 years ago. Fishing for cod, he caught whiting on every cast until about 1.30pm, when he landed a 1.975kg cod.

Hornsea SAC stalwart John Aylward was in third place with a 1.400kg cod caught at Holmpton.

■ Result: 1 Karl Wieckpe, Grimsby, 2.225kg cod (11pts); 2 Mark Andrews, Hull, 1.975kg cod (10); 3 John Aylward, Hornsea, 1.400kg cod (9).

FELIXSTOWE MARITIME OPEN Felixstowe, Suffolk, 57 anglers

The top two in this annual event were pegged in section 1, where Neil Marsh finished with 172 points, followed by Brett Collett on 142.

Third was Colin Provins with 136 points in zone 4.

■ Result: 1 Neil Marsh, Herne Bay, 172pts (5pts); 2 Brett Collett, 145

(4); 3 Colin Provins, Ipswich, 136 (3). Zones – Luke Mooring, 106; Chris Spall, Saxmundham, 126; Steve Boyt & Craig Buy, Colchester, both 62 (all 2).

JOHN SMITH’S OPEN Whitby to Bridlingto­n, Yorks, 139 anglers

Winner of this popular annual heaviest fish event was Scarboroug­h rod Dave Gyte with a 5lb 6oz 5dr codling from the Horseshoe mark at Holbeck, south of Scarboroug­h.

In second was Dave Turnbull, of Darlington, with a 4lb 15oz codling.

Cam Watson, of Filey, was third with a 4lb 13oz 5dr codling from the Gully Wash at Filey Brigg.

■ Result: 1 Dave Gyte, Scarboroug­h, 5-6-5 (13pts); 2 Dave Turnbull, Darlington, 4-15-0 (12); 3 Cam Watson, Filey, 4-13-5 (11). Heaviest bag – Andy Crowe, Scarboroug­h, 19-10-8 (4).

KENT CLASSIC OPEN Isle of Sheppey, Kent, 214 pegs

Victory in this Sheerness Steel SAC event, earning the title of British All-Comers Champion, went to Ian Nelson, of Grimsby, with 19 fish for 3.695kg at peg 148 in zone A.

The same zone produced second and third too. Luke Hutton, of Dover, was runner-up from peg 208 with 18 fish for 3.525kg, with George Smith, of Grimsby, in third with 19 fish for 3.375kg at peg 193.

Zone B winner was Alan Fuller on peg 264 with 17 fish for 2.969kg. Zone C went to Louie Smith with nine fish for 1.660 at peg 355, while Jimmy Bancroft won zone D with 10 fish for 1.865kg at peg 426.

The seven-night stay in Norway for winning the pairs went to Martin Hawes and Lionel Watson with 5.830kg.

The £500 prizes for the heaviest flatfish and roundfish went to Dave Lane with a 0.450kg flounder at peg 343, and Garry Hutson with a 0.370kg whiting at peg 315. ■ Result: 1 Ian Nelson, Grimsby, 19 fish, 3.695kg (20pts); 2 Luke Hutton, Dover, 18, 3.523 (19); 3 George Smith, Grimsby, 19, 3.375kg (18). LOUGHOR INSHORE RESCUE WELSH FLOUNDER FESTIVAL Loughor, Carms, 243 anglers

An increased turnout for this heaviest flounder roving match on the Loughor estuary was won by David Etheringto­n, of Milford Haven, with a fish of 0.960kg from near the boating club.

Runner-up was Carl Campion, of Swansea, with a 0.828kg flounder, with Ian Russ, of Swansea, with a fish of 0.806kg.

Organised by Country Stores tackle shop in Gowerton, the match raised about £2,500 for the local inshore rescue boat.

■ Result: 1 David Etheringto­n, Milford Haven, 0.960kg (20pts); 2 Carl Campion, Swansea, 0.828kg (19); 3 Ian Russ, Swansea, 0.806kg (18).

MORECAMBE BAY TWO-DAY OPEN Morecambe, Lancs, 76 anglers

This event was decided on fish length countback after three anglers scored four zone points.

Gareth Griffiths, of Barrow, edged it with 285cm over Simon Hogan, of Maryport, with 245cm, both scoring a zone win and zone third.

Third went to David Hutchinson, of Morecambe, with 106cm, who had two zone second places for his four points.

Simon caught the longest fish, a 77cm ray and joint longest flatfish, with a 38cm plaice, which was matched by David.

■ Result: 1 Gareth Griffiths, Barrow, 4pts, 285cm (7pts); 2 Simon Hogan, Maryport, 4, 245cm, including biggest fish, 77cm ray (6); 3 David G Hutchinson, Morecambe, 4, 106 (5).

SOUTH SHORE SAC LEINSTER LEAGUE OPEN Kilmuckrid­ge, Co Wexford, 50 anglers:

After the disappoint­ment of the cancellati­on of the Mick Kearney memorial competitio­n, South Shore SAC held the Leinster League match on the following day.

Decent bags of fish were expected in the churned sea that was holding good colour and had a nice surf.

With bait choice restricted to lugworms, fish and shellfish baits, the winner was Paul Whelan, of Raheny, with 32 fish for 779pts at peg 19.

Second went to Noel Fogarty, also Raheny, with 26 fish for 592 points at peg 26, with Darren Ryan, South Shore, on peg 24 taking third with 19 fish and 582pts.

■ Result: 1 Paul Whelan, Raheny, 32 fish, 779pts (5pts); 2 Noel Fogarty, Raheny, 26, 592 (4); 3 Darren Ryan, South Shore, 19, 582 (3). Zone – David Farrelly, South Shore, 17, 362 (2). Longest fish – Eamonn Bermingham, South Shore, 41cm bass (2).

THE 58TH SOUTH WALES OPEN SEA ANGLING CHAMPIONSH­IP Penarth pier and beach, Vale of Glamorgan, 179 anglers

Bright sunlight and an easterly wind made the fishing tough, with only 12 people catching fish.

A conger eel of 13lb 9oz caught on a fillet of codling at Lavernock Point was enough for Joseph Gamlin (above right), of Llamrumney to secure his first major open win.

Second place went to Alan Gozzey, of Cardiff, who, late in the match,

caught three codling for 6-13-8 in three consecutiv­e casts at the white wall at Penarth. Colin Boagey, of Penarth, was third with a 5lb 13oz conger from the black rock end of the beach.

■ result: 1 Joseph gamlin, llanrumney, 13-9-0 (17pts); 2 alan gozzey, Cardiff, 6-13-0 (16); 3 Colin Boagey, Penarth, 5-13-0 (15).

tyne two-day open river tyne, tyne & wear, 166 anglers

With two anglers finishing with a zone win and second place each, the verdict went to the anglers with the longest length of fish.

That was gareth griffiths, of Barrow, who had 1039cm compared to Consett angler gav Owen’s 838cm. in third was John Fisher, who had a zone win and a third and 710cm. each day attracted 83 anglers.

weston outcasts sac BurnHaM open Burnham-on-sea, somerset, 88 anglers

glorious sunshine and a stiff easterly breeze greeted the competitor­s, but bites were at a premium for most.

There were pockets of small codling, as well as a few congers, thornback rays, bass and flounders.

Winner was Weston Outcasts’ member steve ace, who had 9-13-0, consisting of a single thornback ray that also won him the pool for biggest roundfish.

second was Colin edwards, of Birnbeack saC, with a bag of bass and codling for 3-3-12, and third went to Dai loder with a 2lb 12oz conger eel.

Biggest flatfish was a 1lb 6oz flounder for reef raiders’ James redman, who caught it in the last five minutes of the match.

■ result: 1 steve ace, Bristol, 9-13-0 (8pts); 2 Colin edwards, Clevedon, 3-3-12, (7); 3 Dai loder, newport, 2-12-0, (6).

weston-super-Mare saa rnli open weston town beach, somerset, 60 anglers

On a crisp, overcast day, with a 17mph breeze from the south, the fishing was fairly slow, with flounders, rays, school bass and strap congers caught.

Winner was John Beer (below), of Weston-super-Mare saa, who won this rover with a total catch of 235cm, including the longest fish, a 94cm conger eel.

second was luke Tanner, grandson of the much-missed former chairman Mike Tanner, with 120cm. Third was gary simons with 94cm.

Junior winner Harrison izzard, aged only eight, of axbridge, caught a 20cm bass and 38cm flounder, which put him in 11th.

■ result: 1 John Beer, Weston-super-Mare, 235cm, including longest fish, 94cm conger (6pts); 2 luke Tanner, Weston-superMare, 120cm (5); 3 gary simons, Clevedon, 94cm (4).
