LOWRANCE HALO24 RADAR

Lowrance has just released an innovative pulse compression radar called Halo24. It combines the performance and reliability of the company’s award-winning radars with the advantages of a new profile and lightweight design.

Boasting 60 rpm high-speed rotation at distances up to two nautical miles

– an industry first – this dome radar allows for increased safety and improved performance. The extremely fast refresh rate is excellent for high-speed and short-range tracking.

Offering high-quality short, mid and long-range detection capability, up to 48 nautical miles, Halo24 is designed to process multiple ranges simultaneously for advanced, instantaneous Dual Range performance.

In addition, the radar features integrated VelocityTrack Doppler technology providing instant visual feedback on the motion of radar targets in relation to the

SPINLOCK ALTO FLOTATION BELT

Designed to dramatically improve comfort, reliability and ease of use in all watersports, the Alto feels invisible when worn, yet still offers a certified 59 Newtons buoyancy aid.

This is a flotation belt for everyone who enjoys water-based leisure pursuits, from stand-up paddleboarders and kayakers, to anglers and small motor-boating users.

Available in two colours, the lightweight and compact inflatable flotation device has been designed for repeated use. The Alto’s accessible, boat — colour-coding approaching vessels for high visibility, while de-emphasising diverging targets.

The Halo24 radar also includes MARPA functionality, increasing situational awareness and decreasing the risk of a collision at sea.

The lightest 24-inch pulse compression radar dome on the market, the low-profile Halo dome offers different power-level options ensuring high-speed radar coverage when and where it’s needed. In a matter of seconds the radar will boot from low-power standby to full functionality in any mode — harbour, weather and bird.

Incredibly easy to use, the radar will optimise up to 18 different parameters for each pre-defined mode, ensuring the ultimate view.

Priced at £2,770, it is available from authorised dealers.

An Ethernet-connected Lowrance multifunction display or radar control unit is required for operation, and a heading sensor and GPS receiver are required for MARPA target tracking.

BILGE FILTER

River Canal Rescue has launched Bilgeaway – a product it describes as ‘the world’s first environmentallyfriendly bilge discharge filter’.

It uses a non-toxic solution to extract hydrocarbon contaminants from water and render them non-reactive, leaving environmentally-friendly contents in a cartridge, which can be disposed of and the housing then re-used.

Some filter systems fail to decontaminate the hydrocarbons. Bilgeaway is capable of removing hydrocarbons to less than three parts per million (ppm) and doesn’t exceed five ppm. The Marine Pollution Authority’s contaminant limit for coastal waters is 15 ppm.

Filters are available in 10in and 20in plastic, chrome and stainless steel, and prices start at around £150 for the filter and £35 for the cartridge.

It is recommended that filter cartridges are replaced annually or twice yearly (heavy use). Bilgeaway has a three-year warranty.

Simple to install and intended for use with a conventional bilge pump, Bilgeaway works with any current bilge system. When used with a high-pressure pump, the flow rate is significantly higher.

RCR hopes to offer a free disposal and recycling service in the future, and is in discussions with marinas/chandleries to arrange cartridge drop-off locations and various agencies to set up a network of composting sites.

RCR is working in partnership with 54North – a global distribution specialist that will help take Bilgeaway into the recreational and commercial boating markets.
