PENN PLUS BARRY ANGLING FESTIVAL Cold Knap to Fontygary, 103 anglers

Winner of this big event, incorporat­ing the 40th Garry Evans Seamaster Final, was Dave Llewellyn. The rod builder from Penarth caught six conger eels and a pouting for 7.06kg.

Second was tackle shop staffer Daniel Crump, of Barry, with three congers, a spotted ray and a pouting for 4.43kg.

In third was Roy Harding, also Barry, with two congers and a pouting for 3.20kg.

ALDEBURGH BLIND CHARITY OPEN

Aldeburgh, Suffolk, 125 anglers Seventeen whiting and a pouting for 7-4-0 secured top place for Rob Tuck in this popular annual event. Biggest fish was a 3lb bass for Rob Stebbings.

■ Result: 1 Rob Tuck, Holland on Sea, 18 fish, 7-4-0 (10pts); 2 Mick Coleman, Ipswich, 14, 5-6-0 (9); 3 John Austin, Ipswich, 10, 4-8-0 (8). Zones – Chris Cannell, Ipswich, 10, 3-13-0 & Tony Quarton, Aldeburgh, 8, 3-12-0 (both 3). Heaviest fish – Rob Stebbings, Aldeburgh, 3-0-0 bass (3).

BASS ROCK SAC NORTH BERWICK LIFEBOAT CHARITY OPEN

Ravensheug­h sands, East Lothian, 70 anglers

Gareth Gardiner defied the driving rain, gale-force winds and an 8ft swell to win this match. The Sunderland angler landed six fish to scrape past Phil Pape, of Whitehaven, with five.

Gateshead angler Neil Cutler also landed five, but was edged into third on their total length.

Top tactics were three-hook flapper rigs with size 4 hooks baited with small worms tipped with fish.

The measure and release match, which raised more than £200 for the RNLI produced coalfish, bass, turbot and weavers.

■ Result: 1 Gareth Gardiner, Sunderland, 6 fish (7pts); 2 Phil Pape, Maryport, 5 (6); 3 Neil Cutler, Gateshead, 5 (5). Longest fish – Isaac Muir, Stevenston, 47cm bass (2).

CLEADON SAC JOHN STEPHENSON MEMORIAL OPEN Milldam to Wearmouth Bridge, Tyne & Wear, 88 anglers:

Tony Grant, from South Shields, won this heaviest fish match with a 5lb 5oz codling taken at Marsden. He also had the heaviest bag with 6-6-0.

Second-placed Jamie Scott, of Sunderland, fished at Roker pier where he landed a 4lb 3oz codling. The same venue produced a 3lb 7oz codling of Johnny Williams, of Sunderland, who was third.

■ Result: 1 Tony Grant, South Shields, 5-5-0 cod, also heaviest bag, 6-6-0 (8pts); 2 Jamie Scott, Sunderland, 4-3-0 cod (7); 3 Johnny Williams, Sunderland, 3-7-0 cod (6).

GORLESTON TACKLE CENTRE OPEN

Gorleston, Norfolk, 73 anglers

Wind and rain made the fishing tough in this length to weight conversion match, with some anglers throwing in the towel before the end.

Not Steve Adams, of Shotley, though, who finished with a winning 21-10-0 from zone 3. He also caught the heaviest fish, a 10lb smoothhoun­d.

Second was Rob Tuck, of Holland on Sea, who had a slow first hour, but ended with 19-8-0 from zone 1.

Gary Medlar, of Martham, was third with 13-5-0 from zone 2.

■ Result: 1 Steve Adams, Shotley, 21-10-0, including heaviest fish, 10-0-0 smoothhoun­d (7pts); 2 Rob Tuck, Holland on Sea, 19-8-0 (6); 3 Gary Medlar, Martham, 13-5-0 (5).

HASTINGS & ST LEONARDS ANGLING FESTIVAL

Hastings, East Sussex, 42 anglers

In a contest fished over two days, but as separate matches, the two daily winners were Keith Erridge, with 19 fish for 7-1-0 from peg 1, and Nathan Elliott, with 16 fish for 7-0-0 from peg 2.

Heaviest fish winners were Rex Palmer with a 3lb bass and Jacob Gainey with a 2lb 13oz sole.

■ Result: Day 1 – Keith Erridge, Eastbourne, 19 fish, 7-1-9 (4pts); 2 Colin Crosby, Hastings, 12, 6-15-0 (3); 3 Ralph Crosby, Hastings, 6-14-0 (2). Zones – Brett Cotter, Deal, 6-1-0 & Mark Hurcombe, 5-15-0 (both 1). Heaviest fish – Rex Palmer, Hastings, 3-0-0 bass (1).

Day 2 – 1 Nathan Elliott, 16 fish, 7-0-0 (4); 2 D Convo, 5-0-0 (3); 3 Jacob Gainey, 4-7-0, including heaviest fish, 2-13-0 sole (2). Zone – Paul Tiltman, 2-1-0 (1).

HORNSEA SAC ALLAN GORBUTT MEMORIAL OPEN Holderness Coast, East Yorks, 86 anglers

Thornback rays dominated this memorial match with Nick Weathersto­ne, of Hull, catching a winning 4.255kg fish at Atwick.

Neil Robinson of Nafferton, and Dennis Wiepcke, of Barton upon Humber, were second and third with rays of 1.900kg and 1.800kg, both fish being caught from Hornsea North Beach.

■ Result: 1 Nick Weathersto­ne, Hull, 4.225kg thornback ray (8pts); 2 Neil Robinson, Nafferton, 1.900kg thornback ray (7); 3 Dennis Wiepcke, Barton upon Humber, 1.800kg thornback ray (6).

THE 59TH SOUTH WALES SEA ANGLING CHAMPIONSH­IPS Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, 146 anglers

A blonde ray and a conger eel caught from Lavernock Point gave Chris Jones, of Porthcawl, a winning weight of 16-12-0.

In the match fished from Barrage Rocks to Lavernock Point, the next four anglers all caught single conger eels.

Second was John Griffiths, of Tonyrefail, with a 14lb 3oz eel, the biggest fish of the match, from Ranny Pool. He was followed by Dai Loder, of Newport, with a sevenpound­er from Lavernock Point, Andrew Withey, of Porthcawl, with 4-10-8 and Colin Boagey, of Penarth, with 3-11-0.

■ Result: 1 Chris Jones, Porthcawl, 2 fish, 16-12-0 (14pts); 2 John Griffiths, Tonyrefail, 1, 14-3-0 (13); 3 Dai Loder, Newport, 1, 7-0-0 (12); 4 Andrew Withey, Porthcawl, 1, 4-10-8 (11); 5 Colin Boagey, Penarth, 1, 3-11-0 (10).

TYNE TWO-DAY OPEN

River Tyne, Newcastle, 148 anglers

Four anglers finished this two-day match with a zone win and a second for three points, meaning the verdict was decided by length of fish caught.

Winner with 1141cm was Garry Hutson, of Grimsby, followed by Jordan Hunter, of Sunderland, on 1138cm, Ged Stevens, of Barrow, on 1068cm and Norfolk visitor Henry Randell with 1042cm.

Longest fish was a 47cm codling for Alan Burton, of Sunderland.

■ Result: 1 Garry Hutson, Cleethorpe­s, 3 zone pts, 1141cm (14pts); 2 Jordan Hunter, Sunderland, 3, 1138cm (13); 3 Ged Stevens, Barrow, 3, 1068cm (12); 4 Henry Randell, Bodham, 3, 1042cm (11); 5 Nicky Robson, Wallsend, 4 (10). Longest fish – Alan Burton, Sunderland, 47cm codling (5).
