SAMF NATIONAL SEA LEAGUE FINAL

Norman’s Bay & Pevensey Bay, Eastbourne, 320 anglers

An outstandin­g second-day winning performanc­e secured an easy victory for Channel Angling Deal (above) in the nation’s top team event.

The Hastings League team finished with a 22-point margin over 2017 winners Asso Anyfish Anywhere from the Lincolnshi­re League. The AAA team was second on both days of the event. Only one point behind in third was Team Breakaway, from the East Anglian League.

Channel Angling’s team consisted of Tom Wells, Brett Cotter, Luke Mooring, Louie Smith and Steve Swan.

Individual­ly, the verdict was decided on fish points after Nathan Elliott (Asso Anyfish Anywhere) and Henry Randell (Big Catch Tackle) tied on four day points. Nathan had 1,502 fish points and Henry 1,373. The next two places were also decided by fish points, with Lee Adams (Italcanna) on 1,188 points edging out Louie Smith (Channel Angling) on 980.

Day 1 produced 5,375 fish, mostly whiting, in the coloured water, with Gorleston Tackle (Norfolk League) leading the way with 32 penalty points, followed by Asso Anyfish Anywhere on 34 and Team Breakaway with 50. Top individual on Day 1 was Henry Randell with 65 fish for 958 points form Zone B at Pevensey beach.

Rapidly clearing water pushed the fish further out on Day 2 and fewer fish (2,298), were caught. Channel Angling Deal blew away the opposition to finish with only 13 penalty points, followed by Prime Angling Worthing with 35 and Century Match Team with 28. The day’s top individual was Nathan Elliott with 50 fish for 685 fish points from zone E at Eastbourne’s Sovereign Park.

BREAKAWAY OPEN

Dunwich, Suffolk, 82 anglers

Whiting dominated the Breakaway open, fished at Dunwich in a flat sea and bright late autumn sunshine.

Winner Cameron Turner landed 25 fish for 423 points in zone 3. Graham Adams and Keith Morley were second and third, also from zone 3.

■ Result: 1 Cameron Turner, Felixstowe, 25 fish, 423pts (8pts); 2 Graham Adams, Shotley, 26 fish, 419pts (7); 3 Keith Morley, Gorleston, 17 fish, 402pts (6). Sections – Dale Pegg, Elmsworth, 12 fish, 352pts & Adam Kingdon, Ipswich, 11 fish, 270pts (both 3).

BRITISH OPEN SHORE CHAMPIONSH­IPS

Deal and Walmer, Kent, 116 anglers

Even though it clashed with the two-day National Sea League Final, this annual event still attracted 116 anglers.

Winner was Jason Brown, of Bristol, who caught 16 fish for 626cm at peg 133 in zone D at Walmer. Only five anglers out of 27 in zone D caught more than 10 fish.

Second and third came from zone A at Sandwich, where more fish were caught. Luke Hutton, of Dover, at peg 7 caught 37 fish for 615cm, while Dave Mewburn, of Deal, on adjacent peg 6, caught 25 fish for 533cm.

■ Result: 1 Jason Brown, Bristol, 626 (11pts); 2 Luke Hutton, Dover, 37, 615 (10); 3 Dave Mewburn, Deal, 25 533 (9). Zones – Jacob Gainey, Canterbury, 17, 469cm & Martin Humphries, Dover, 25, 453cm (both 3).

EAST COAST WARRIOR OPEN

Holderness Coast, East Yorkshire, 100 anglers

Chris Fisher, of Aldbrough, who won the European Open Beach Championsh­ip in 2019, topped this biggest fish event with a 2.45kg cod, caught at Paull.

Second went to Rich Cross, of Hornsea, with a 2.10kg cod at Aldbrough, with Darren Blake, of Skipsea, third with a 2.03kg cod at Atwick.

■ Result: 1 Chris Fisher, Aldbrough, 2.45kg cod (10pts); 2 Rich Cross, Hornsea, 2.10kg cod (9); 3 Darren Blake, Skipsea, 2.03kg (8).

IAN REID MEMORIAL OPEN

Leven beach, Fife, 114 anglers

Conditions were not favourable following a week of easterlies, but most anglers caught fish on both days, although weights were down on previous years.

Winner was Scotland ladies internatio­nal, Lesley Maby, who had a zone win and third to finish with four points. She caught nine fish for 187 points.

Runner-up was Scotland internatio­nal and former Penn Sea League finalist, Billy Buckley with a second and third for five points, consisting of six fish for 156 points.

In third was Gareth Gardiner, with six points from a fifth and zone win. He caught 11 fish for 291 points.

■ Result: 1 Lesley Maby, Penrith, 9 fish, 187 pts, 4 zone pts (11pts); 2 Billy Buckley, Glasgow, 5 (10);3 Gareth Gardiner, Sunderland, 6 (9). Zones – Paul Coady, Cork, 125pts; Kevin Lewis, Dundee, 332; Harry McKee jnr, 105 & Alan Mulcahy, Waterford, 209 (all 3).

LOUGHOR BOAT CLUB & WELSH FLOUNDER FESTIVAL

Loughor, Swansea, 172 anglers

This combined Lougher Boat Club Flounder Festival and Welsh Flounder Festival produced some good fish, with only 2g separating the top two anglers in this heaviest fish shore event.

Winner Mark Davies caught an 840g flounder, but soon added a better fish, a 894g flattie that proved to be the best of the match.

Second went to Alan Walters with an 892g flounder, followed by Carl Campion on 790g.

■ Result: 1 Mark Davies, Lougher, 894g (17pts); 2 Alan Walters, Gorseinon, 892g (16); 3 Carl Campion, Swansea, 790g (15); 4 Tom Drew, Llanelli, 768g (14); 5 Richard Green, Mumbles, 736g (13).

SKARNSUNDE­T KENT CLASSIC OPEN

Isle of Sheppey, 168 anglers

After a week of offshore winds changed overnight, the fancied Sheerness end of the venue failed to produce any of the expected thornback rays.

Only eight were landed, all from the Leas and new seawall at Minster, helping eight anglers to placings in the top 10. Top angler with a ray, bass and some whiting for 5.020kg was Martyn Hawes in zone D.

Pairs winners, scooping the holiday in Norway, were Luke Mooring and Brett Cotter with 3.545kg.
