SHORE JIGS are very versatile lures, cast well, even into the wind, and you can use them with a steady slow retrieve or sink and draw. They can be fished with single, treble or assist hooks. These metals range in sizes from 5g to 28g, with the examples shown here being the HTO Fugitive and Shore Jig and the original Dexter Wedge. The Fugitive (£2.99 is a slim line casting jig designed for light game and rock fishing for predatory species. It is centre balanced to ensure the lure falls horizontally with a forwards and backwards sliding motion to entice fish to take when the lure is on the drop. When retrieved, the lure wobbles to imitate the natural movement of smaller bait fish species. It is good for predatory species such as pollack, codling, wrasse, mackerel, scad and garfish. There are five colours available. The embedded, reflective patterns are designed to give off maximum visual attraction. Each lure is fitting with quality split rings and a treble hook. The Shore Jig (£2.99) is a long-casting lure fitted with an assist hook, making it easier to remove compared to a treble hook. The action is a wobble when retrieved with a flutter when dropping through the water column. Use it to fish in mid-water for mackerel and pollack and for bouncing on the bottom for gurnards and wrasse. You can replace the treble with a single hook on the Fugitive using a size 1 split ring. Go for size 8 on the 5g version and size 6 on the 7g lure. You could also fit an Assist hook, as shown. For the Shore Jig, a single hook can also be fitted to the rear of the lure, using a size 6 split ring with the size 2 hooks shown. There is the option for two assist hooks, as shown, on the larger versions. The Dexter Wedge (£2.99 - £9.50) is a classic lure for predatory fish, casts well and is ideal for bass, mackerel, pollack and almost any predatory fish. It has a wobbling action when being retrieved and can be used for jigging. It has a chrome plated brass blade with holographic tape for extra flash, stainless steel wire components and Eagle Claw hooks.
