He also caught some smaller bass, baby smoothhounds, dogfish and pouting. Bristol angler Tony Irwin fished the upper Bristol Channel and landed this 7lb 12oz bass, which was 73cm long, on a three-hook clipped rig with size 2 hooks baited with lugworm. Benjamin Cannings, from Wiltshire, got out boat fishing for the first time since lockdown. Fishing on Silver Spray charters out of Poole, he boated a 10lb 3oz bass. Bass fishing in the Cleethorpes area of Lincolnshire has produced some good fish. Here’s a 7lb 2oz fish caught on a peeler crab by Paul Chilver, of Hull. John Francis landed this 5lb 8oz bass on a Pennell pulley rig baited with crab while fishing at Port Talbot. Harvey Clews caught this bass on his third cast while fishing locally at Swansea. The 8lb 8oz fish took a Sidewinder Bass Stick at low tide. This 5lb bass is a personal best for Harry Tempel, of Newton Abbot, who fished a mark along the Bristol Channel. “So happy, the fish gave a great fight and was in perfect condition,” he said. This 14lb bass was caught and released by Sean Dixon, while fishing locally at Cardiff. He used a squid bait cast out 25 yards on an up-andover rig. A squid bait produced this 6lb bass for Richard Johnson, of Sheffield, who was fishing at Kilnsea, East Yorks. Fishing at a North Norfolk beach, Alastair McCaig, of Fakenham, Norfolk, caught this eightpounder on a Pennell pulley rig with size 2/0 and 3/0 hooks baited with lugworms.
