Six of the best: New Business Class cabins

Airlines are upping their game in Business Class and implementi­ng ever-more tempting upgrades. Andy Hoskins looks at developmen­ts when turning left

Delta Air Lines

Delta claimed it was "redefining Business Class travel" when it launched Delta One suites last year. The product includes sliding privacy doors and 18-inch TV screens. It is currently onboard some A350 aircraft on selected routes but will also be introduced on Delta’s B777s. delta.com

Qatar Airways

Qsuites enable four passengers travelling together to open up their pairs of aft and forwardfac­ing seats to dine or work together in a ‘quad’. Pairs of central seats also convert into double beds. Media panels have power ports with USB, HDMI and NFC capabiliti­es. The product debuted on a B777 London-Doha flight last summer. qatarairwa­ys.com

Lufthansa

Lufthansa’s new Business Class takes to the skies in 2020 when it rolls-out its B7779 aircraft. Seats will be in a 1-2-1 and 1-1-1 configurat­ion, giving passengers a choice of longer beds or seats with double desk space. The convertibl­e middle seat has a thronestyl­e layout with two surfaces either side. lufthansa.com

Singapore Airlines

The airline has spent four years and $850million developing new cabins for its fleet of Airbus A380s. Dividing panels that lower to form a double bed across the central seats is ‘comfortabl­y’ the most notable developmen­t but there’s also an 18-inch HD touchscree­n monitor with noisecance­lling headphones. singaporea­ir.com

United Airlines

The roll-out of United’s Polaris seats is gathering pace with the product now onboard various B777-300ER and B767-300ER aircraft. It joins perks such as enhanced dining and Saks Fifth Avenue bedding that were introduced after the summer 2016 launch of Polaris. united.com

South African Airways

The new Airbus A330-300 will operate from London to Johannesbu­rg from March 25 and the Business cabin will incorporat­e 23-inch wide forwardfac­ing flat beds with a 45-inch seat pitch in a 1-2-1 configurat­ion, ensuring direct aisle access for all.
