We all enjoy our autumn and winter sport on some farmer’s land — a farmer whose crops may well have suffered severe woodpigeon damage during the summer. Does Mr Scott really think that in such a case he and others like him are going to be welcomed when they turn up in the autumn to enjoy their sport? I think not.
A. Williams, Wiltshire article (Off to a flying start, 6 September). I was disappointed with the lack of photographs of the pointers and setters. I understand that it is difficult to capture a dog on point with a camera while getting Guns into position, but photos of the dogs would have helped promote this form of shooting.
My reasons for raising this issue is the fact that despite all the Guns enjoying the day with me and another handler who was working shorthaired pointers, they could not identify the breed. Photographs can do so much to promote the pointers and setters that excel on this type of day.
