When the grouse season started, I was horrified to see harmful and inaccurate descriptio­ns on the website of a major so-called animal rights charity. I won’t name it, as I don’t want to give it even negative publicity.

But it states that gamekeeper­s use snares and traps to catch foxes and corvids, in which it says “many non-target and protected species” get caught. It describes this as “the indiscrimi­nate killing of animals to facilitate the killing of other animals for sport”.

My understand­ing is that modern tunnel traps and Fenn devices do not kill the animals caught in them. Yet this wellknown organisati­on is peddling lies to try to increase donations. We are lucky to have people such as Sir Ian Botham on our side, who is not afraid to put his head above
