in my naivety i posted on a large pigeon shooting social media group the question: “What would you say is the most important kit needed if you are starting out pigeon shooting?” the first 20 responses were “gun”.

the gun has to be light and manoeuvrable and my Beretta Silver Pigeon 20-bore did the trick for me. James shot with the more manly 12bore variant and this too worked well. in terms of cartridges, though much of the literature suggests light loads of No. 7 shot, i would have liked the extra punch you get with 25g No.6 shot. a note on cartridges: you can never bring too many.
