Consistent Hatton claims another top 10 finish on PGA Tour Golf

- Tyrrell Hatton.

There was another top 10 finish at a PGA Tour event for Tyrrell Hatton this weekend with the Marlow player finishing tied for fourth at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

While not quite in the mix for the title, Hatton again did well enough to finish comfortably in the top 10 on 16under par, alongside his compatriot Danny Willett, Canadian Adam Hadwin and American Ryan Armour. Hatton now has five top 10 finishes in his last six PGA Tour events.

American Matthew Wolff held the overnight lead going into the final day, but a seven-under par final round from the big-hitting, newly bulked-up American, Bryson DeChambeau, saw him steam through for victory by threeshots. Afterwards he said it showed there was ‘another way’ to win tournaments after having purposely put on 45lbs of weight in nine months to give him extra yardage from the tee. American Kevin Kisner was third on 18under par, two shots behind Wolff and five behind DeChambeau. Hatton finished seven shots off the event winner.

Hatton’s form since the turn of the year has been exemplary. In one of his first tournament’s since returning from wrist surgery over the winter, Hatton won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, his first PGA Tour success. The tour was temporarily suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic but the Marlow player returned to tie for third at the RBC Heritage event in South Carolina last month, having held the joint overnight lead heading into the final day’s play. Before undergoing surgery he signed off on his 2019 season with a dramatic win in the Turkish Airlines Open, winning a play-off for his fourth European title.
