Boss not demoralised by Windsor’s sluggish start

Manager's belief remains high despite one win from first five matches

-

Having only picked up one win in five of their opening competitive fixtures, Mark Cooper is not feeling de-motivated or demoralised by Windsor FC’s sluggish start to the season.

The Royalists' only recorded victory – since the new Hellenic Premier Division campaign kicked off earlier this month – came against Aylesbury Dynamos in the FA Cup at the start of September.

Since then, they have lost to Wantage Town, Flackwell Heath, and Long Buckby, who knocked the Royalists out of the FA Vase with a 3-0 win on Saturday.

Their poor form continued on Tuesday night, losing 3-2 against Reading City at Stag Meadow.

Danny Horscroft and Adam McNamara scored for the Royalists while Nathan Jones and Tyler D’Cruz (two) were on target for City.

Despite this tough start to the season, boss Cooper says his belief in the squad remains very high.

Speaking to the Advertiser before the loss to Reading City on Tuesday he said: “We simply need to turn our results around but I thoroughly believe in the squad.

“We all believe we’re in a much better shape than we were last year so I’m confident we’re going to have a decent season but it’s got to start sooner rather than later.

“We missed a lot of chances on Saturday against Long Buckby and we’ve missed quite a few at the beginning of the season. In the first half, we

played some really good football. It just looked like a matter of time before we’d go in front. But they scored with their only shot on goal.

“We were trying to play out

from the back and got caught. That’s what can happen when you pass through the thirds but we can’t discourage our boys from playing that way if we believe in the strategy.

“We didn’t really do enough in the second half and we didn’t make their ‘keeper work. They hit us a couple more times on the break and it was a tough day capping off a bad week.”
