Royalists surrender two-goal advantage as Moles dig deep

Windsor FC boss Mark Cooper would have settled for a draw before his side’s clash against league leaders Binfield on Friday. But having led the game with 10 minutes to play, it was certainly a case of two points dropped.

Billy Montague (right) appeared to have secured a rare victory for the Royalists when he scored in the 84th minute to give them a two-goal advantage heading into the game’s dying embers.

But the Moles dug deep and were able to snatch a share of the points with Sean Moore’s brace in injury time to round off an eight-goal thriller, the match concluding 4-4.

Windsor had imposed themselves well throughout with Sam Coles (17’) and Danny Horscroft (60’, 65’) making the most of the Royalists’ pressure.

Yet despite the frustration of the full-time score, the performance has given Cooper a cause for optimism.

“I was pleased that our finishing was much better,” said the boss.

“We’ve been needing three shots at goal to score one lately. But, on Friday night we had a much better conversion rate with the chances taken.

“I thought that we didn’t really make many mistakes either. We’ve been keen to mitigate those because they have been costing us lately.”

“It’s hugely frustrating that we couldn’t go on to get all three points but Binfield are arguably the best team in the league,” added Cooper.

“However, they (Binfield) won’t have a tougher game than that this season I would’ve thought. We will take the positives from it and my boys will get their rewards soon I’m sure of it.

“I feel like we're still heading in the right direction and we’ve now got a few games that we need to get maximum points from.”
