Flying Blues grounded in Village battle

Marlow United slumped to defeat against Wraysbury Village in a six-goal encounter at the Memorial Ground on Saturday afternoon.

In their first match since re-joining the Thames Valley Premier League, the Flying Blues were grounded 4-2 with Neil Austin scoring both of United’s goals.

Marlow were tasked to play a large part of the game with a man down as George Goode was shown a straight red card on the 37th minute.

But with 10 of the starting 11 tasting their first ever fixture of step seven, Matt Letts’ new look United side came away from the match a little bruised but a lot wiser.

They will look to go again this weekend against Woodley United at home.

Cookham Dean were also unfortunat­e in their game against Finchampst­ead as they succumbed to a 2-0 loss at the Memorial Park.

Richie Dow and Jack Lewis scored the goals for Finch who have scored four goals from four different goalscorer­s so far this season.

The result leaves Dean at the bottom of the table without any points from their two opening games.

They play Wraysbury Village on Saturday.

Maidenhead Town remain unbeaten in the division as they followed up their opening day draw with a 3-1 win over Woodley United Royals at Bisham Abbey.

Aleks Yankov, Ryan Adams and Duarte Surpanu were all on the scoresheet for Town.

They host Finchampst­ead this weekend who are level on points and goal difference in the division.

Elsewhere in the league, Westwood Wanderers maintain their flawless start having beaten Reading City u23s 2-1.

Mortimer shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw with local rivals Newbury.

Berks County thumped Richings Park 4-2.

And Burghfield stole a 1-0 win at Windlesham and Chobham.
