Sabha start with emphatic win over Iver

- Singh Sabha Slough

Singh Sabha started their new EBFL Premier Division season with an emphatic 6-1 win over promoted St Peter’s Iver on Saurday.

Pritpal Raju and Hasan Mahmood both helped themselves to a brace as the side opened with a comfortable victory. Bobby Samra and Karim Chaibi were also on target, while Chaibi was named man of the match.

It was six months since their last competitive fixture due to COVID-19 restrictions, but they quickly recovered from a sluggish start to take the lead, Raju slotting home from the spot after being taken down by the Iver keeper in the box. Mahmood then swept home a free kick from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 before a flowing move resulted in Chaibi scoring from close range from Raju’s cross. A fourth goal followed on the stroke of half time when Jovan Bains’ cross was pushed out by the Iver keeper only for Samra to hammer it home from close range.

Tonca kept Iver out with a couple of fine saves as complacency crept in after the break, but after conceding a sloppy goal Sabha raised their game in the final 10 minutes. Raju got his second of the game with a 25yard free kick and Yonis Mohammed came on to set up Mahmood for their sixth before the end. They’re next in EBFL League Cup action against Iver Heath.
