Tories broke vow to keep garden centres

-

Fake news.

We rather thought that was the domain of opinionated politicians from across the pond but, it seems it may be alive and present in our borough.

This, following a deliberately provocative and disingenuous letter to viewpoint last week (November 13) by former councillor Ed Wilson.

During the last election, WWRA councillors set out a manifesto to build communities including ‘protecting and improving the environment’ that we live in.

As with any manifesto, that is predicated on being in a position of power within RBWM.

Yet at the same time then Cllr Wilson helped deliver a leaflet which pronounced ‘GOOD NEWS FOR THE COMMUNITY BOTH GARDEN CENTRES TO STAY’.

Sadly, both have since been sold after their inclusion in the Borough Local Plan by the Conservative-led administration of which Mr Wilson was a part of.

Those serving under the ruling party previous to the 2019 elections, had the power to prevent the sale of our muchloved garden centres but, instead, allowed them to disappear while trumpeting a different story to the trusting public.

Fake news, such as this, is the enemy of democracy.

We invite Mr Wilson to end his crusade of undermining elected representatives and to promote a more collaborative and cohesive response to the needs of our community.
