Slough slip to home defeat as in-form Crusaders march on
Slough Town 1, Hungerford 3
Hungerford’s impressive start to the season continued as they defeated Slough Town 3-1 at Arbour Park on Tuesday night.
Ryan Seager’s first half brace helped the Crusaders take control of the Berkshire derby. The Rebels were deservedly beaten, despite Dan
Rober ts’ registering for the home side.
The visitors claimed the ascendancy in the early stages when winger Craig Fasanmade’s pinpoint cross picked out the unmarked Seager who finished from close range. Seager found the net again shortly after the restart, but this time the linesman’s flag denied him a second goal.
Slough fought back to level matters in the 32nd minute when Max
Worsfold combined well with Malachi Linton and the latter picked out Roberts, who clipped the ball over the advancing Luke Cairney to score.
But the away side looked the more resilient throughout and responded just before the half-time whistle. This time there was no off-side flag to save Slough as Seager ran through to drill the ball past Jack Turner.
Hopes of a second half fight-back from the home side were quelled when Fasanmade pounced on a loose touch from Turner and rolled the ball into an empty net to make it 3-1 in the 53rd minute. For much of the remainder of the half the Rebels were restricted to attempts from distance. Substitute Paul Hodges fired just wide of Cairney’s far post, and the keeper produced a fine save to deny
Roberts a second goal from the penalty spot after Hodges had been brought down by Curtis Angell. To their credit Slough never gave up and Warren Harris was unfortunate to see his goal-bound header in the 90th minute kept out by Cairney.
Billericay Town 2, Slough Town 0
Ryan Bird’s sending off on the stroke of half-time proved to be the turning point as Slough Town went down 2-0 at Billericay Town on Saturday.
The Rebels’ central defender was given his marching orders after collecting two yellow cards within the space of five minutes towards the end of the first half. The home side then took full advantage after the interval with Jake Robinson and Jai Reason netting against the 10 men.
