Disgusted at carve up of Memorial Park

-

An open letter to the leader of Slough Borough Council:

I am a Langley resident and am disgusted after recent developments in our locality.

Please tell me how you managed to move from the local people of Langley owning Langley Memorial Park (it was purchased by public subscription circa 1920), to Slough Borough Council carving the land up for its own purposes?

It has every appearance that you have purposefully chosen to wear two hats when making decisions!

As a supposed ‘trustee’ of Langley Memorial Park, yet at the same time being the leader of Slough Borough Council, how do you reconcile the wanton destruction and change of use of the land, with your clear and obvious duty as a trustee to protect it and keep it as a park for the benefit of the people of Langley?

It has every appearance that the COVID situation presented an opportunity for ‘consultation by stealth’, which was limited to an online forum with a ridiculously small window of opportunity, which most people were clearly unaware of.

Please explain how you justify your actions, and by what authority Slough Borough Council has now acted against the best interests of Langley residents; destroying an appreciable part of their hitherto unblemished and much cherished local park?

As leader of Slough Borough Council you often espouse the ‘Green Agenda’, having introduced local cycle schemes and electric scooters.

Yet here you are, wantonly felling trees and bushes, destroying parkland belonging to the people of Langley, to widen the adjacent road (B470) and turn it into a dual carriageway!

How do you reconcile the inevitable increase in pollution and destruction of our publicly owned local park with being ‘green’? How can you ever justify this abomination?

Your position is both hypocritical and untenable.

GORDON MOFFATT Kedermister ward resident
