Thames Valley Premier League passes motion to continue with season

Thames Valley Premier League

-

After organising a special meeting with clubs on Tuesday evening, the Thames Valley Premier League has passed a motion to continue the league season from early April to the end of June.

The step 7 league, which includes teams such as Marlow United, Cookham Dean, Maidenhead Town and Wraysbury Village, will attempt to complete its season from April 10 to June 26. The special general meeting, held with TVPL clubs this week, saw a proposal to extend the season voted through by the majority of clubs.

If COVID restrictions prevent all games from being completed by the end of June, a points-per-game system will be used to determine placings and winners. The league will encourage clubs to play as many games as possible, however, financial penalties will not be imposed if teams decide to withdraw or scratch matches.

In a post on Twitter the league’s account said: “After tonight’s SGM the fantastic news that the league will resume from Saturday 10th April. A huge thank you to all clubs for working through to get a sensible return and playing terms. Great to be back playing.”

Teams in the Premier Division managed only a handful of matches before lockdown restrictions led to the league being halted before Christmas.

Most clubs have played four or five matches, with Finchampstead leading the way having played seven games. Berks County still hold a 100 per cent record with four wins from four. Cookham Dean and Marlow United have both made a faltering start to the season, with both sides having won just one of their matches so far. The league has five divisions, with Wargrave currently leading the way in Division 1 from FC Imaan Lions and Reading YMCA.
