Rebels to kick off 2022/23 campaign away to Havant

-

Slough Town’s fixtures for the forthcoming 2022/23 National League South season have been revealed.

The Rebels will travel to Havant & Waterlooville on the opening day of the season (Saturday, August 6). This will be followed by their first home game against Tonbridge Angels (Saturday, August 13).

Jon Underwood and Neil Baker’s side will journey over to Oxford city on

Boxing Day (Monday, December 26) before welcoming the Hoops to Arbour Park on New Year’s Day (Sunday, January 1).

Slough Town will conclude their campaign at home against Braintree Town (Saturday, April 29).

A small part of Neil Baker would have liked to have seen Slough Town score more goals against Ascot United in Saturday’s preseason friendly, but the larger part of him was unconcerned by the result and very much hoping all the Rebels came through their first outing unscathed.

On Saturday, the Rebels opened their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Ascot United at the Racecourse Ground, Ben Harris, Johnny Goddard, and Aaron Kuhl scoring their goals.

And, while the score line could have been more emphatic, Baker was pleased to be able to give most of his squad their first 45 minutes of football in several weeks.

That included the returning Guy Hollis and George Wells, as well as

Ryan Bird who took to the field for the first time since rupturing the patella tendon in his left knee back in September.

Speaking to the Advertiser on Tuesday, Baker said: “It was a good opening game. We had two different teams in the two halves, and it wouldn’t have been an unfair reflection if we scored a few more. But to be honest, I don’t put a heap of emphasis on results. My focus is very much on the boys getting through the game without any injuries and they did which was key.

“The first game [of preseason] is always the trickiest. We want to impress, and they want to impress – especially considering we’re a Conference South side. But we were really happy with how we played. We’ve got another two training sessions this week before we welcome Wealdstone to Arbour Park on Saturday.”

Baked added: “It’s also Sean Fraser’s testimonial on Sunday (1pm kickoff). We will have a game that features several players that have got promoted over the last nine or ten years.

“We’ve probably got 30 or 40 ex-Rebels players coming back to support Sean too. We want the Slough locals to come out in force to support Sean.”
