Commons Sense
It has been a dynamic and eventful month, with significant progress made within the Beaconsfield constituency and in Parliament. I have been dedicated to amplifying constituents' voices and ensuring their views are heard and empowered.
One of the highlights was my visit to Marlow Fire Station, where I proudly welcomed the
UK’s first Fire Investigation Team. This achievement follows extensive lobbying efforts on behalf of myself and Cllr Simon Rouse.
Securing the station’s long-term future remains a top priority for me, and I am delighted to see that the team’s expertise will benefit Marlow and South Bucks and contribute to fire investigations across the entire UK.
Additionally, I was pleased to visit Beaconsfield Fire Station, where I was invited to witness their impressive river rescue operations on the Thames. It was truly inspiring to see their meticulous training in action.
The recent £450million investment in school improvements across the country is another cause for celebration. Lent Rise School, Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, and the Gerrards Cross CofE School in the constituency will all benefit from this investment, creating more energy-efficient classrooms for our children. I am thrilled to witness these positive changes in our educational infrastructure.
During my visit to Little Marlow, I engaged with constituents on the critical issue of preserving our greenbelt, a cause that is close to my heart. Acting on this issue, I have been diligently holding Thames Water accountable and addressing concerns the Marlow Sewage Action Group raised at their AGM.
Protecting our green spaces is a recurrent topic of discussion during my regular advice surgeries. These sessions are vital not only for me but also for my constituents, as they provide an opportunity to have direct conversations about matters that profoundly impact their lives and may otherwise go unheard.
I recently lent my support to Alzheimer’s Week, recognising the importance of raising awareness about this challenging condition and supporting those affected. Mental Health Awareness Week served as an important reminder to carry on spreading positivity and encourage everyone, especially our young people, to prioritise their well-being. Helping to shed light on conditions such as anxiety, it emphasized the need for increased understanding and support.
Furthermore, I have been actively addressing constituents’ concerns regarding the Government’s support for neurodiverse individuals and the organisations that represent and assist them. Ensuring these concerns reach the Government’s ears remains one of my key objectives.
Lastly, I am immensely proud to have contributed to the delivery of the Freedom of Speech Bill. The recent royal assent for the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill is a significant milestone in safeguarding free speech within our universities and higher education institutions. This essential legislation ensures that open dialogue and diverse perspectives will continue to thrive across our country for generations to come.
I remain committed to championing the interests of the Beaconsfield Constituency and addressing the issues that matter most to you. As always, I am excited to continue our journey together and achieve positive outcomes.
