Windsor bounce back from surprise defeat to secure their largest victory

-

Windsor bounced back from their surprise away defeat to Wallingford by hammering Chinnor 3rds 62-6 at Home Park on Saturday.

Defeat at Wallingford was a setback to their hopes of finishing the season as one of the best runners-up at their level and claiming promotion.

But they hoisted themselves back into the running for promotion with another stunning try-laden display.

They remain 18 points behind champions Beaconsfield, who have won all 20 of their games this season, but gave their points difference a handy boost with this 16th win of the season.

It’s the sixth time this season Andy Symons’ side have scored more than 50 points in a game – and the third time they've managed over 60 – yet this was still their most convincing win of the campaign.

They have a couple of matches left to squeeze in away to the relegation-threatened

Rams 3rds and home to leaders Beaconsfield (April 6) at Home Park.

After that they’ll launch straight into the Papa John’s Counties 1 Championship, with captain Chris Emmett said they’d be taking more seriously this spring after pulling out of last year’s cup. They’re set to host Wanstead on Saturday, April 13.

Marlow came within a whisker of claiming their sixth win of the season on Saturday, as they went down to an agonising 32-30 defeat at home to Hemel Hempstead.

Head coach Rory GreensladeJones was hoping the team would build on their recent home wins over Aylesbury and Fullerians at Riverwoods, and they came mightily close to doing that against the Regional 2 Thames division’s fifth placed side. However, in an exciting, enthralling match – which bodes well for their aspirations to kick on in this division next year – they were edged out by just a couple of points in a highscoring clash.

Marlow managed six tries in the match but couldn’t convert any of them. In contrast, Hemel only managed five tries and a penalty, but their extra precision with the boot just got them over the line.

The home side scored three tries in the final 15 minutes to give themselves a shot at tying the game in the final minutes, however, the kick went wide of the upright and Hemel held on for the points. Marlow did, however, claim a couple of useful bonus points.

Nino Massa, Matt Davis, Sam Morley, and Brett McDougall touched down for the visitors.

The result leaves Marlow ninth in the table on 28 points. They finish their season away to the Old Priorians on Saturday, April 6.
