Scorpionz will return to defend Players Cup crown

-

Slough-based five-a-side team the Slough Scorpionz are returning to defend their crown in the nationwide Ladbrokes Players Cup tournament this summer.

Last year’s winners have confirmed they will defend their title after claiming a share of last year’s £50,000 prize pot.

The Slough team also overcame a ‘Boss Level’ game against former Premier League players Lauren, Jérémie Aliadière, William

Gallas, Clinton Morrison, and Paddy Kenny to claim an additional £8,000.

To help them celebrate, Ladbrokes put on an open top bus ride for the squad through the centre of London.

This year, the Ladbrokes and Powerleague sponsored event is returning bigger and better than before with a record-breaking prize pot of £100,000.

There will also be a men’s and women’s competition, with the champions set to win at least £10,000. Runners up will receive a £5,000 consolation prize and there will be additional prizes and rewards on offer throughout the tournament, taking the total prize money to £100,000 – the biggest ever cash prize given out by Powerleague.

Six heats will be held in Powerleague venues across the UK and Ireland and the two best teams from each tournament will qualify for the Players Cup final in Birmingham on July 13.

Those heats are set to take place in Manchester on May 18, Dublin on May 25, Glasgow on June 1, London on June 8, Birmingham on June 15 and Cardiff on June 23.

The Players’ Cup is designed to bring the glamour and glory of the elite game to grassroots teams and offers five-aside teams from the UK and Ireland the chance to be crowned the best in the country. During the event teams will have access to Powerleague’s pitch side cameras, enabling them to capture and record their best moments. The best goals and sublime pieces of skill will also be rewarded with prizes while Ladbrokes plans to share the best of them on their social channels.

The qualifying rounds and final will also feature live music, celebrity guests and ‘unexpected moments’.

Christian Rose, CEO at Powerleague said:

‘’We’re delighted to be partnering with Ladbrokes on the Players Cup for the second year running, giving our customers the chance to win a record-breaking prize pot.

“Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, it’s fantastic to see the tournament expanding to more locations, allowing customers from all over the UK and Ireland the chance to compete’’.

Five-a-side teams interested in entering the tournament can do so via the registration page on Ladbrokes’ online platform.
